If your choir already knows the melodies! These are twenty familiar tunes set to new and varied accompaniments. Fourteen of them with a stanza in two-part canon, two containing a three-part canon, and four of them unison. So, on Sunday morning, when only eight of your thirty choir members arrive, you don't need to panic. Well, not much.

a CD of all the anthems recorded (make copies for your choir!)

From our Grievous Complaint Department
The Sunday Morning, Absolutely One-RehearsalAnthem Book For About 10 Panicked Singers is being used by more than 3300 churches nationwide. We think that’s great! But if you don’t have it in your library, your music program is missing out on a resource that can’t be beat. These anthems will make your choir sound like a Waffle House full of angels! Of course, since our book has been out since 2001, we’ve received our share of criticisms and—to be fair—we’ll be happy to share some of these with you.
Grievous Complaint: I don’t care for this book. Too many of the anthems are in canon.
Our gentle rebuttal: (very slowly) Okay....pay attention now...Yes, yes they are. In fact, they’re ALL in canon. This is the idea. Your choir knows the tunes. One rehearsal. That’s it. If the choir can’t sing it in one rehearsal, we didn’t put it in.
Grievous Complaint: Some of the accompaniments are too hard.
Our gentle rebuttal: Good point. Some of them are challenging, we admit. However, sometimes, in order to make the choir sound good, the accompaniment needs to have a bit more pizazz. We suggest not surprising the accompanist with these anthems. Our idea was “one rehearsal” for the choir.
Grievous Complaint: There’s no accompaniment CD! We can’t sing unless we have an accompaniment CD.
Our gentle rebuttal: We’re sorry. We don’t do that. (It’s a theological issue with us.) However, there are many music publishers that offer this option, and it won’t take you long flipping through some catalogs or surfing the net to find something your choir can sing along with. We do include a CD with all the anthems recorded. And we’ve got no problem with you making copies of the recordings and handing them out to the choir so they can learn the music.
Grievous Complaint: We can’t use this every Sunday. All of the anthems are in canon.
Our gentle rebuttal: Haven’t you been PAYING ATTENTION?! WHAT ARE YOU? SOME KIND OF NITWIT?!!
Of course you can’t use it every Sunday! Ach!
Grievous Complaint: We bought this book a few years ago and we love it. But why haven’t you come out with any others?
Our gentle rebuttal: Thank you for asking this very pertinent and timely question. Of course we have more!

A Little Math for Choir Directors
Since our book came out in 2001, there have been quite a few publishers jumping on the “Anthems for About 10 Singers” idea. We don’t mind. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and these other publishers were on to our concept like a church mouse on a left-over communion cracker. But make no mistake...this is the ONLY One Rehearsal Anthem Book!
Another Unnamed Publisher — 10 Anthems for About 10 Singers — $6.95 per book. No recording.
$6.95 x 12 (about 10 singers, 1 accompanist, 1 director) = about $83.40 for 10 anthems.
