Lo, How A Rose E'er Blooming
Mixed voices a cappella (SS(A)ATB. A beautiful, fresh, and lush setting of Es ist ein' Ros. Not too difficult. (The alto line quotes Divinum Mysterium.) This arrangement also works wonderfully well as a three part women's piece - just sing the top three parts!
The recording of the first verse is of the SAATB version — the recording of the second stanza is the SSA version.
Lo how a rose e'er blooming
From tender stem hath sprung.
Of Jesse's lineage coming
As seers of old have sung.
It came a blossom bright,
Amid the cold of winter,
When half spent was the night.
Isaiah 'twas foretold it
The rose I have in mind.
With Mary we behold it
The virgin mother kind.
to show God's love aright,
She bore to us a Savior,
When half spent was the night.
