Description

SATB and Organ. A fun piece that showcases the organ(ist!). Four of the variations of the Louis-Claude Daquin (1694-1772) Noël "Grand Jeu et Duo" frame four verses sung by the choir. Usually performed as a Christmas organ solo, now you can incorporate the choir as well. Great for a Christmas prelude or the pre-service concert!  If you like this, check out a similar arrangement of Daquin's "Noel Suisse".

Lyrics

Angels singing o'er the earth,
Sweetly tell the story.
And proclaim the joyous birth,
Telling of God's glory.
"Peace on earth" the angels sing,
"and to all, salvation bring,"
Noel, Noel, sing glory, Tell the angel's story.

Shepherds, hearing of the news,
Journeyed to the stable,
Leaving flocks of lambs and ewes,
Went as they were able.
There they saw the holy child,
Christ, the Savior, meek and mild,
Noel, Noel, sing glory, Tell the shepherd's story.

Wisemen, coming from afar,
Through the fields and fountains,
Following the distant star,
Over moors and mountains.
Here at last their gifts they bring,
And behold the newborn King,
Noel, Noel, sing glory, Tell the ancient story.

Like the blessed ones that night,
We shall bow before Him,
And behold the glorious sight,
Worship and adore Him.
See Him in the manger laid,
Christ, the Lord, is born today,
Noel, Noel, sing glory, Tell the wondrous story.
