Johann Eccard
Birth / Death Dates
1553 – 1611
Description
A German composer and kapellmeister. He was an early principal conductor at the Berlin court chapel. Eccard was a pupil of the great Orlandus Lassus, and his compositional output seems to consist entirely of works for the voice. His most famous work is the 6-voice Maria wallt zum Heiligtum (Mary waltzed into the Temple), a staple motet for Candlemas.
