May the Grace of Christ Our Saviour Non-US copyright
SATB (or 2-part, or unison) and organ. Text by John Newton.
Notes: This is a blessing that could be sung equally effectively by a unison, two part or SATB choir. As in much 2 part music the lower part when sung by men often has a wide range. Basses particularly should lighten the top notes such as on the second syllable of words such as ‘Father’s’ (bar 10) and ‘Spirit’s’ (bar 15). Singers of the descant in the last verse should be careful not to dominate the melody. This piece would be suitable for an ecumenical service or worship in the week of Christian Unity.
May the grace of Christ our Savior
and the Father's boundless love
with the Holy Spirit's favor,
rest upon us from above.
Thus may we abide in union
with each other and the Lord,
and possess, in sweet communion,
joys which earth cannot afford.
to the God whose wisdom made us,
to the Son who set us free,
to the sanctifying Spirit,
Glory, endless glory, be.
