Siyahamba
For SATB Choir, Soprano or Tenor soloist, Djembe (African drum) and Shaker. A fine arrangement of this popular Zulu Folk Song. The drum and shaker parts should be ad libbed (as any good percussion player is wont to do anyway!) The same goes for the soloist. There is a solo part written, but the singer is encouraged to find his or her own way and enjoy the journey.
From the composer: The South African song Siyahamba, We are marching for the Lord is our light, was sung by Black South Africans at marches protesting the apartheid years with a firm religious conviction that God would set them free. This faith was very much a part of their fervent singing. By telling this story, we honor the soul of a culture who cherishes personal and religious freedom.
